WOOD'S SCHOOL RECORDS
- Mizzou junior Kieran Wood will look to continue his magical debut season in the Black & Gold, as he has set a school record in each of the three races he has competed in individually this season. Wood, who captured NCAA All-Midwest Regional honors during the cross country season, debuted in the indoor season by setting the 3000m run school record at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Jan. 20, as he crossed the finish line at 8:04.03. Next, Wood became the first Mizzou athlete to run a sub-four minute mile on an indoor track at the Husker Invitational (Feb. 2), as he crossed the finish line at 3:59.64. Less than a week later, Wood then reset his 3000m run school record at the Iowa State Classic (Feb. 8), as he improved his time to 8:01.77. Wood's times of 3:59.64 in the mile run and 8:01.77 currently rank 25th and 54th in the nation. The Tiger junior also ran the anchor leg on Mizzou's distance medley relay team at the Alex Wilson Invitational (Feb. 16), which set the No. 3 mark in program history at 9:37.44. This weekend, Wood is entered in the mile run, 3000m run and DMR.
VILCHES' DEBUT
- Freshman Roberto Vilches, a highly recruited prospect out of Mexico City, has been nothing short of spectacular in his first season for Mizzou. Vilches broke Mizzou's oldest school record at the Missouri Intercollegiate (Jan. 11), as Vilches broke Nat Page's 1977 high jump school record with a mark 2.26m (7-5). The mark was the top mark in the nation at the time of the jump, currently ranks fourth in the nation, and matched a facility record set by current Mizzou Associate AD Brian Brown, who set the same mark in a 1991 meet while competing as a professional. Vilches also set the No. 4 program mark in the long jump at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge (Feb. 16), as he posted a leap of 7.82m (25-8). The Tiger freshman will compete in the high jump and long jump in Fayetteville.
TOP-10 MARKS EVERYWHERE FOR MIZZOU'S THROWERS
- Mizzou's throws group has once again proven to be a reliable commodity for the Mizzou Track & Field team, as six throwers have posted program top-10 marks during the indoor season. Redshirt junior Jordan McClendon has led the way for Mizzou, as she continues to improve her weight throw personal record, raising it all the way to 21.76m (71-4.75). The mark is the second-best in program history, and currently ranks 10th in the nation this season. Redshirt junior CeCe Johnson also posted a top-10 mark in the weight throw, checking in at No. 6 at 19.16m (62-10.5), while redshirt senior Gabi Jacobs and redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera have each posted identical 15.86m (52-0.5) marks to rank seventh in program history. For the men, redshirt senior Avery Carter entered the top-10 at No. 6 in the weight throw with a throw of 20.70m (67-11), while redshirt senior Will Fife ranks 10th in the shot put at 18.37m (60-3.25).
DYNAMIC DUO
- Mizzou has a dynamic duo of freshmen in the triple jump to build around in the upcoming future, as Mirieli Santos and Arianna Fisher currently rank 1-2 in the event in program history. Fisher originally broke the school record in her Mizzou debut at the Missouri Holiday (Dec. 8), as she jumped 12.68m (41-7.25) before Santos broke Fisher's mark in her debut at the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 9) with a jump of 13.00m (42-8). Santos' mark ranks 25th in the nation this season, while Fisher's ranks 47th.
