MIZZOU SET FOR ARKANSAS IN LITTLE ROCK FOR BLACK FRIDAY REGULAR SEASON FINALE
- Mizzou Football (5-6, 2-5 SEC) is set for its regular season finale this Friday (Nov. 29) against Arkansas (2-9, 0-7 SEC) at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Ark.
- Friday's game will kick at 1:30 p.m. on CBS with Carter Blackburn, Aaron Taylor, Rick Neuheisel and John Schriffen on the call. The game will also air live on the Tiger Radio Network and Sirius/XM satellite radio.
MIZZOU STRONG IN LAST SEVERAL REGULAR SEASON FINALES
- With Friday's game set to be Mizzou's 2019 regular season finale, the Tigers are looking to keep a current trend of winning regular season finales going. Dating back to 2016, Mizzou has won its last three season finales, all against Arkansas, beginning with a 28-24 win in 2016. Mizzou won a wild one in Fayetteville the following year in 2017, 48-45, as then-junior QB Drew Lock broke the SEC's single season passing TD record in the win. Mizzou trounced Arkansas, 38-0, on a rain-soaked Faurot Field last season.
- Dating back to 2013, Mizzou has won five of its last six regular season finales, with four of those coming against Arkansas. The other win came in 2013 against No. 19 Texas A&M as the then-fifth-ranked Tigers claimed their first SEC East Division title with a 28-21 win over the Aggies.
- Since 2003, Mizzou is 12-4 in regular season finales.
BOWL ELIGIBILITY ON THE LINE
- When Mizzou hits the field at War Memorial Stadium Friday, it will do so with a chance to clinch eligibility for a berth to its third consecutive bowl game. Of course, Mizzou went to the Texas Bowl in 2017 and the Liberty Bowl a year ago.
- Should Mizzou earn bowl eligibility Friday, it would mark Mizzou's longest streak of bowl-eligible seasons since doing so in seven straight seasons from 2005-11.
- If Mizzou attains bowl eligibility Friday, fourth-year Mizzou head coach Barry Odom would become the first Mizzou coach since Warren Powers to take Mizzou to a bowl game in three of his first four seasons at the helm of the program. Powers is the only coach in the Associated Press era to take Mizzou to a bowl game in three of his first four seasons.
SERIES VS. ARKANSAS
- Mizzou leads the all-time series with Arkansas, 7-3, and has won the last three meetings. Fourth-year head coach Barry Odom is 3-0 all-time against the program's permanent cross-divisional rival, winning 28-24 in 2016, 48-45 in 2018 and 38-0 last year. Since joining the SEC, Mizzou is 4-1 against the Razorbacks.
- In last year's meeting, Mizzou finished the regular season 8-4 (4-4 SEC) after earning a dominant, 38-0, win over the Hogs. On Senior Day, a day when the program's 19 seniors were honored while playing their final home game, it was Mizzou's defense that was dominant from start to finish. The Tigers posted 8.0 tackles for loss, including a season-high 5.0 sacks, 4.0 of which came in the first half. Mizzou limited the Razorbacks to 187 total yards, including just 52 on the ground. It was Mizzou's first shutout over an FBS team since Nov. 28, 2010, against Iowa State.
- Mizzou senior QB Drew Lock, playing in his final home game, went 16-for-25 for 221 yards and two TDs while rushing for two more scores. He exited the game in the fourth quarter to a standing-ovation from the crowd.
- Mizzou finished the regular season 8-4, marking the 17th time in program history that Mizzou has finished with eight wins in the regular season.
- One of the more memorable matchups between Mizzou and Arkansas came during the 2007 season in the 2008 Cotton Bowl. In that game, Mizzou earned a 38-7 win to finish with an 11-2 record and a No. 4 national ranking. Mizzou senior RB Tony Temple set a single-game Cotton Bowl Classic rushing record with 281 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
- The meeting will mark Mizzou's first neutral site game with its permanent SEC West rival since joining the SEC.
- Mizzou and Arkansas last met in Little Rock back in 1963 when Dan Devine's Tigers earned a 7-6 win at War Memorial Stadium en route to a 7-3 record and the nation's No. 16 ranking in the final coaches poll.
LAST TIME OUT VS. TENNESSEE
- Mizzou Football dropped its final home game of the season to Tennessee, 24-20, last Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Mizzou held leads in the first and second quarter, but was unable to end with the victory on Senior Night.
- With the loss, Mizzou fell to 5-6 on the season and 2-5 in SEC play, while Tennessee improved to 6-5 and 4-3 in the SEC.
- With two TD receptions, sophomore RB Tyler Badie had the first multi-touchdown game of his career. Badie now ranks second on the team in TD receptions with five. Badie also had 35 rushing yards on nine attempts.
- Sophomore LB Nick Bolton led the team in tackles for the sixth consecutive game, recording 10 tackles. It marked Bolton's fifth game this season with 10 or more tackles. He's the SEC's tackling leader.
- RS sophomore WR Barrett Banister led the team in receptions and receiving yards, posting career-highs with five catches for 46 yards.
- After halting Tennessee on the game's opening drive, Mizzou proceeded to march down the field and convert a 30-yard field goal from senior K Tucker McCann to take a 3-0 lead. RS sophomore Banister provided two key receptions on the drive, including a season-long 23-yard reception which set Mizzou up in Tennessee territory.
- Early in the second quarter, Tennessee scored a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead, but Mizzou was able to respond with a touchdown of its own, as senior QB Kelly Bryant found Badie for a seven-yard TD to cap a nine-play, 75-yard drive for the Tigers. On the drive, Badie and sophomore WR Jalen Knox combined for 67 yards.
- In the third quarter, Badie found the end zone once again, this time on a trick play. Junior WR Micah Wilson took a backward pass from Bryant and found a wide open Badie in the end zone for a 15-yard TD. Badie's second touchdown of the night tied the game at 17-17.
- A McCann field goal in the fourth quarter pulled Mizzou within four points at 24-20, but the Tigers were unable to take the lead on their final drive of the game.
SPECIAL TEAMS MADE PLAYS VS. THE VOLS
- Mizzou's special teams units gave the Tigers a chance to win last Saturday's game vs. Tennessee. In fact, Mizzou blocked a pair of field goals, marking the first time Mizzou has blocked two kicks in a single game since 2015 (Sept. 19 vs. UConn).
- In addition, Mizzou senior K Tucker McCann was 2-for-2 on field goals in the game, giving him 60 in his career. That moved him into sole possession of second place all-time at Mizzou, as he passes Jeff Wolfert (who had 59 from 2006-08).
- McCann also had a strong night punting on his senior night, averaging 44.1 yards per punt with two inside the 20. His net punting average on the night was a solid 42.1. Four of McCann's five kickoffs were also touchbacks - his only non-touchback came on a squib that wound up pinning Tennessee back at its own 11-yardline. McCann leads the nation in touchback percentage with a 93.22 percent mark (55-of-59). The next-closest mark is 86.21 percent by UCLA's JJ Molson.
- Senior return man Richaud Floyd also tallied a 16-yard punt return in the game to continue his strong senior season in the return game.
McCANN CLOSING IN ON HISTORY
- Mizzou senior K Tucker McCann sits at 352 career points, which is notable as he is just shy of Andrew Baggett in second (355 from 2012-15) on Mizzou's career scoring list. He is also just 10 shy of tying Jeff Wolfert who sits in first place (362 from 2006-08).
- He now has 60 career FGs, which is No. 2 on the chart, moving past Wolfert with his last FG Saturday for second place. Baggett is No. 1 with his 66 career field goals made, so McCann needs six more to match him.
- McCann, of course, had his first walk-off winner at Arkansas in 2017 to give the Tigers a 48-45 win with a19-yarder at the gun.
