COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball added one new student-athlete to its future 2020 roster on Wednesday, as DS/L Emily Brown (Lafayette, Ind.) will arrive to Mid-Missouri beginning next Fall. The newly appointed Tiger will join interim head coach Joshua Taylor and Mizzou as a true freshman starting with the 2020 campaign.

"We're so lucky to have Emily joining us in 2020," said Taylor. "She's not only one of the best serve/receive liberos in her class, but she has the desire to improve every chance she gets. Her personality is one that will greatly benefit Mizzou Volleyball and the culture we are cultivating."

Brown, a four-year starting libero for McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, Indiana, was named to the 2019 Prep Volleyball Senior Aces and Defensive Dandies lists. She gained further national recognition after being selected to the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School Region 5 All-Region Team.

"Getting to come to Mizzou and be a part of this team is a dream come true," said Brown. "My goal was to play for a top program, but Mizzou is so much more than that. I had such great interactions with the coaches and I knew they would make me better as a player and a person. Then I was able to interact with the current team and that's when I knew that this is where I wanted to be. I'm so blessed to be coming to Mizzou!"

In her 2019 senior campaign, Brown helped McCutcheon to an impressive 32-2 record and its first sectional title since 2013. She broke out in her 2018 junior season, posting 519 digs (5.10 per set) and 58 aces (0.60 per set), en route to Indiana All-State honors. As a sophomore in 2017, the talented defender posted 454 digs (4.60 per set) and 50 aces (0.50 per set). McCutcheon produced a 25-6 record and advanced to the IHSAA Class 4A State Tournament.

For her four-year varsity career, Brown accumulated 1,888 digs (4.70 per set) and 188 aces (0.50 per set). She was a model of consistency in the back row, recording 450-plus digs in each season for the Mavericks.

Brown also excelled in the classroom over her prep career, highlighted by 2019 Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association Academic All-State honors.

The incoming Tiger was nationally regarded on the recruiting trail, ultimately picking Mizzou over Illinois, Purdue and Kansas.
