COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou freshman diver Leonardo Garcia Varela (Cali, Colombia) was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Garcia Varela swept both springboards in his first collegiate meet, the 2019 Show-Me Showdown on Friday, Oct. 4. The freshman scored a six-round total of 336.50 to take top honors on 3-meter and added a win on 1-meter after a score of 318.50. His 3-meter score currently ranks first among all SEC divers, while his total on 1-meter puts him second.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the water on Friday, Oct. 18 when the squads host Florida at 9:30 a.m. CT at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
