Baseball claims 4-0 victory Friday night to gain series lead
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball beat Mizzou Softball, 4-0, in the third annual Fight Hunger Charity Game on Friday evening at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
"It's a very fun-hearted game to play," Mizzou Baseball head coach Steve Bieser said. "Our guys come here and have a good time. This type of event lets them have more fun than your traditional SEC baseball matchup. We really have fun playing this game every year."
"This is a great event for two Mizzou teams to get together and play for a great cause," Mizzou Softball head coach Larissa Anderson said.
Mizzou Baseball's offense was held quiet in all but the second inning, scoring all four of its runs in the frame. The defense for the baseball squad also held strong, surrendering its first hit to Mizzou Softball in the fourth inning. With the win, Mizzou Baseball takes a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.
More importantly, the two teams put on Friday's event to help the Tiger Pantry, an organization that helps provide food resources and education to members of the University of Missouri family in need.
In addition to the canned-food drive, there was also a silent auction for Mizzou memorabilia and exclusive fan experiences including signed helmets from both diamond programs. All of Friday's proceeds, which is projected to reach $1,000 in canned food and monetary donations, will go directly towards the Tiger Pantry and The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.
