Mizzou Swimming & Diving Hosts Florida in SEC Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 13/6 Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when the teams host No. 7/10 Florida at 9:30 a.m. CT at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
Fans are asked to park at the Turner Avenue Parking Garage at the intersection of Turner Avenue and Tiger Avenue. Parking costs $5 and can be purchased ahead of time here.
TIGERS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Mizzou clocked in at sixth and 13th, respectively, in the CSCAA Preseason TYR Top 25, announced on Oct. 9. The poll included both teams that had and had not opened their seasons.
LAST TIME OUT
The Tigers swept the men's and women's team titles at the 14th Annual Show-Me Showdown on Oct. 4 as the teams combined to win 25 of 26 events during the meet.
Four different Tigers each claimed two wins apiece in the meet, seniors Nick Alexander (200 IM and 100 back.) and Haley Hynes (100 fly and 100 back), sophomore Jack Dubois (200 free and 500 free) and freshman Leonardo Garcia Varela (1-meter and 3-meter).
Additionally, the women's 200 medley relay team of Hynes, freshman Molly Winer (Ames, Iowa), junior Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.) and sophomore Megan Keil (Derby, Kan.) missed an NCAA automatic qualifying time by just over a tenth of a second after placing first in 1:36.53.
GARCIA VARELA NAMED SEC MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Freshman Leonardo Garcia Varela was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Diver of the Week on Oct. 9 after sweeping both springboards in his first collegiate meet, the 2019 Show-Me Showdown. The freshman scored a six-round total of 336.50 to take top honors on 3-meter and added a win on 1-meter after a score of 318.50.
UP NEXT
The Tigers are idle until Saturday, Nov. 2 when the they travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on Missouri State at 1 p.m. CT.
