Mizzou Soccer Downs Tennessee for First SEC Win

Tigers score two goals in final 10 minutes to end five-match winless streak
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Soccer (7-6-1) answered a scoreless first half with two goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Tennessee Lady Vols, 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) started the wave with a goal in the 82' minute with an assist from Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.). Cisneros returned the favor with an assist to Luebbert, who netted another goal in the 86' minute to put the match out of reach for the Lady Vols.
The win is the first conference victory of the season for Mizzou (7-6-1, 1-4-1) and ends a streak of five-straight matches without a victory.
TURNING POINT
- Looking to replace the zero on the scoreboard, Luebbert sent a deep pass from across the midfield line to Cisneros outside the penalty area. Cisneros cut behind a defender and fired into the left corner of the goal to put Mizzou up 1-0.
- Just four minutes later, Cisneros split the Lady Vols (8-5-1, 2-4 SEC) defense and set up Luebbert who avoided the Tennessee goalkeeper with a strike from the right side of the box. The insurance goal earned the Tigers the 2-0 result.

- "Let's do this together is how we looked at it. Don't give up and don't let up," said forward Cisneros about her team's effort. "Sarah said in the locker room, ride the wave. Whichever team can ride the wave better will end up victorious."
NOTEABLE
- Luebbert's goal is her seventh of the season and the 28th of her career. She is now eighth all-time on Mizzou's career goals leaderboard. The senior is tied for eighth on the all-time points leaderboard with 76.
- Luebbert tallied her sixth assist of the season and the 21st of her career. The forward moved into eighth on the university's all-time assists leaderboard.
- Cisneros game-winning goal is her third of the season and the sixth of her career.
- Mizzou is 6-1-1 in matches when tying or exceeding their opponents in corner kick opportunities.
- The Mizzou back line held Tennessee to only six shots, one on goal, on the day. Both marks are a season low for opponents.
- The Tigers earned defeated Tennessee for the first time since 2015.
TOP TIGERS
- Julissa Cisneros scored the game-winning goal to tilt the match in the Tigers favor. The sophomore got back in the scoring column after being held in check for the past eight matches.
- Sarah Luebbert found the back of the net adding an insurance goal in the final minutes.
- Freshman McKenna Sheehan (Cary, Ill.) earned the first clean sheet of her career, making one save.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will return to action next weekend, facing Kentucky on the road, Oct. 18, for its lone match on the week.
