Karissa Schweizer set for World Championships

The former Mizzou standout starts action in Doha tomorrow
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou Track & Field athlete Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) is set to compete in the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday. Schweizer, a six-time NCAA champion and 10-time NCAA All-American, will toe the line for the preliminary round of the 5000m run at 10:25 a.m. CT on Wednesday before potentially advancing to the finals on Saturday.
NBC Sports will have TV and online streaming coverage of the World Championships beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday. Schweizer will run in the first of two 5000m heats with the top-five finishers from each heat and the next five fastest times advancing to the final, which will take place on Saturday at 1:25 p.m. CT and will also be broadcasted on NBC Sports. Schweizer is the highest-seeded American and has the 16th-fastest time of any of the runners in this year's qualifying group.
Schweizer qualified for the U.S. National Team by finishing second with a time of 15:17.03 at the USATF Outdoor Championships in July in her home state of Iowa. Schweizer owns the fastest 5000m tie clocked by a U.S. female in 2019, winning the Sunset Tour (July 9) with a personal record time of 15:01.63.
