Storylines
- Mizzou hosts No. 3 Tennessee on Tuesday night, the 14th all-time meeting between the two programs.
- Mizzou is looking for its 14th win in program history over a team ranked No. 3 or higher. It's the Tigers' first such matchup since hosting No. 1 Kentucky in 2015. The last time Mizzou took down a Top-3 team was Jan. 21, 2012, an 89-88 win at No. 3 Baylor. The last such win at home came back on Feb. 26, 2003, a 67-52 victory over No. 3 Oklahoma.
- A win on Tuesday would give Mizzou victories in its conference opener in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011-12 and 2012-13.
- Last season, Mizzou took down No. 21 Tennessee, 59-55, at Mizzou Arena, one of three ranked wins the Tigers recorded in Martin's first season at the helm.
- Mizzou just finished an undefeated month of December for the first time since 2011-12, the third time this century and for just the eighth time since 1930.
- Mizzou has held opponents to 69 or fewer points 30 times in the Martin era, which amounts to 66.7 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 9-0.
- Mizzou is attacking the glass this season. It has outrebounded its opponent 10 times in 12 games to begin the season. The Tigers have done that 32 times in 45 games during the Martin era. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 31.9 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC.
- Mizzou leads the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage and ranks 22nd nationally in that category, shooting 39.3 from beyond the arc. From 2012-17, Mizzou shot 32.4 percent from 3-point range. In the Martin era, Mizzou is shooting 38.6 percent from deep. Mizzou has made 74 triples over the last seven games, shooting 42.5 percent from beyond the arc in that span. Sophomore Mark Smith is the top 3-point shooter in the SEC (46.2 percent).
The Win Streak
- Mizzou has secured six consecutive victories, the longest win streak of the Cuonzo Martin era and the longest since 2013-14, when the Tigers started that campaign 10-0. Mizzou is already riding its third win streak of at least five games during the Martin era.
- Mizzou is on fire of late, downing five consecutive opponents by 14+ points for the first time since Nov. 17-Dec. 2, 2011.
- The Tigers have held each opponent to less than 65 points during the win streak. The last time they did so in six straight wins was Nov. 14-Dec.2, 2011.
- During the streak, Mizzou has outscored opponents by 13.8 PPG and forced 15.5 turnovers per game.
- Mizzou's top seven players in terms of minutes played are all shooting above 40 percent from the field over the last six games.
Monster In The Paint
- Sophomore standout forward Jeremiah Tilmon was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 24, his first career conference award and Mizzou's first since Kassius Robertson on Feb. 12 of last season.
- Tilmon averaged 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in wins over Xavier and Illinois, recording back-to-back doubles. He notched a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds vs. Xavier and added 16 points and 12 rebounds vs. Illinois.
- He has scored in double figures 20 times in his career. Mizzou is 18-2 in those games, including 7-1 this season.
- Tilmon is shooting a team-high 56.4 percent from the floor this season, which ranks third in the SEC. He's made 26 of his last 40 field goal attempts.
- Tilmon has been dominant at home this season, reaching double figures in six of seven games thus far. In those seven contests, he's averaging 12.7 points per game and shooting 59.3 percent from the floor.
- Tilmon has four double-doubles in his last seven games. He is one of five players in the SEC with at least four double-doubles this season.
- Tilmon's 6.7 rebounds per game ranks 10th among SEC players. He is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game over the last seven contests.
Geisty
- Senior guard Jordan Geist, who had surpassed 20 points in a game just once in his career (28 vs. Green Bay on Dec. 9, 2017) prior to this year, reached the 20-point threshold for the fourth time this season with 20 points vs. Morehead State.
- In those four 20+-point outings, Geist committed just six total turnovers in 133 total minutes.
- Geist came up clutch vs. UCF, making a career-high five triples, including a buzzer-beating trey to send the game to OT. Mizzou hasn't lost since.
