Mizzou Volleyball’s Deberg & Fuentes Earn SEC Weekly Awards

Mizzou Volleyball junior OH Kylie Deberg and redshirt sophomore S Andrea Fuentes were each recognized in the Southeastern Conference Week Two Volleyball Players of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball junior OH Kylie Deberg and redshirt sophomore S Andrea Fuentes were each recognized in the Southeastern Conference Week Two Volleyball Players of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Deberg was named the Overall and Offensive Player of the Week while Fuentes garnered Setter of the Week honors.

"We're very excited for both Kylie and Andrea on these well-deserved honors," Mizzou Volleyball interim head coach Joshua Taylor said. "They were both integral parts in our success this past weekend at the Dayton Invitational. While they were recognized for their individual success, I was proud of our entire team's effort in Dayton. This was a true group effort and we're doing a lot of great things right now!"

Monday's announcement marks both Deberg and Fuentes' fourth career honor by the SEC office. Deberg was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week three times in her 2018 sophomore campaign while Fuentes was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week on three occurrences a season ago.

Deberg was simply sensational over the Tigers' unscathed road trip to Dayton, Ohio, leading to Dayton Invitational All-Tournament Team honors. Overall, the Hudson, Iowa, native produced 59 kills (5.36 per set) on an eye-popping .510 hitting percentage. She also added seven aces, two solo blocks and five total blocks to contribute towards an incredible 6.32 points per set.

The Tiger outside hitter opened the weekend with 15 kills on a remarkable .632 hitting in Mizzou's sweep over No. 14 Michigan. Following 19 kills on .375 hitting against Dayton, Deberg capped her weekend with a career-high 25 kills on .575 hitting versus Northern Illinois.

At setter, Fuentes orchestrated an incredibly highly efficient Mizzou offense all three matches. The Tigers collectively produced 158 kills on a standout .434 hitting percentage. Across the weekend, Mizzou hit .370-plus in 10 of 11 sets played, highlighted by eight sets over .400 hitting and five sets exceeding .500 hitting.

Mizzou's offense opened the trip with 42 kills on an incredible .507 hitting in its sweep over No. 14 Michigan. It marked the 10th-highest team single-match hitting percentage in program history. In the weekend finale, Fuentes recorded a season-high 55 assists in a win against Northern Illinois. It was the fourth, 50-plus assist match of her career.
