COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling head coach Brian Smith has unveiled the program's 2019-20 schedule, one that is loaded with exciting duals and tournaments as Tiger Style again looks to cement its status as one of the nation's elite wrestling programs. In all, Mizzou will host seven duals at the Hearnes Center, including bouts against Arizona State, Iowa State and Ohio with doubleheaders against Missouri Valley and Central Missouri, and Northern Illinois and Cleveland State. Mizzou will also host Illinois in a home dual at St. Louis' Francis Howell High School, similar to last year's dual at Park Hill High School in St. Louis. Mizzou will face eight opponents that finished in the top-30 at last year's NCAA Championships.
"Every year, we try and schedule the nation's best wrestling programs so our wrestlers are prepared for the NCAA Championships year in and year out," head coach Brian Smith said. "Looking at our schedule this year, I believe we have done that again as we will wrestle plenty of perennial powers – eight of our opponents finished in the top-30 at the NCAA Championships last year with six in the top-25. We've got our work cut out for us, so I'm excited to see how our team responds to the level of competition this season."
Fans will get their first look at Tiger Style on Oct. 19 during the annual Black & Gold scrimmage. That will be one of two chances before the turn of the calendar year to catch Mizzou in a dual at Hearnes Center as the Tigers spend a large portion of the early schedule on the road. Mizzou will wrestle a doubleheader with Missouri Valley and Central Missouri on Nov. 21. However, the Tigers will host a home dual at Francis Howell High School in St. Louis on Nov. 14.
The Tigers will face a loaded field at the South Beach Duals from Dec. 29-30 with duals against Old Dominion (No. 32 at 2019 NCAA Championships), Cornell (No. 7) and two other teams yet to be determined. Mizzou went 4-0 at the event last year, including a win over Cornell.
The back half of the schedule is loaded as well. The Tigers will host Ohio on Jan. 10, Northern Illinois and Cleveland State on Jan. 25, Arizona State (No. 12) on Feb. 9 and Iowa State (No. 16) on Feb. 22. Mizzou will also face Oklahoma State (No. 3) in Stillwater on Feb. 2 to highlight a challenging second half.
