COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin was named the Week Three Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, announced Tuesday, March 26, by the league office.
Rollin helped lead Mizzou to a series sweep of No. 13 Kentucky over the weekend, guiding the Tigers to victory with her steady production at the plate. Mizzou secured its first three-game SEC series sweep in nearly three years with its three wins over Kentucky, mostly due to the Tigers' explosive offense, which was keyed by the Salt Lake City product.
The Tiger shortstop led Mizzou in nearly every meaningful statistical category last week, notching six hits (1st), six runs (1st), two homers (T-1st), and two stolen bases (1st). Rollin also had five RBI last week, good for third most on the squad.
Rollin started things off against Bradley, going a perfect 2-2 at the plate, while scoring the Tigers' lone run of the game on a solo shot in the first inning. Her strong hitting continued in the Tigers' first come-from-behind win in Lexington, as her two-run home run in the top of the third inning made her the only Tiger this season to register a home run in three straight games. Though she would not homer again over the Tigers' remaining two games, Rollin would show her offensive versatility over the final two games of the series, going 3-6 with a double, two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Rollin's unique combination of speed and power was on full display this weekend at John Cropp Stadium, but has been well documented throughout this season. Rollin's six home runs this season are good for second most on the team, but Rollin is also tied for the team lead in stolen bases, swiping seven so far this year.
