Tigers host six home dual meets at the Hearnes Center as they look for fifth straight top-10 NCAA finish
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling has unveiled its 2018-19 schedule, which includes six home duals, including duals at the Hearnes Center against Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa and Central Michigan.
The Tigers are coming off another successful season in 2017-18, during which they secured a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, their fourth straight top-10 finish. Mizzou had four wrestlers earn All-American honors, two of which return for the 2018-19 season. The Tigers look to improve upon that performance, and to earn their sixth consecutive MAC title this season. Redshirt junior Jaydin Eierman was named the 2018 MAC Wrestler of the Year, and returns this season looking to continue that success.
Following the team's annual Black & Gold Scrimmage on Oct. 27, Mizzou officially opens the campaign on the road against Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 3. The Tigers then kick off MAC competition on Nov. 11 on the road against Old Dominion.
Mizzou will host its first home dual of 2018 on Nov. 16 as Virginia Tech comes to the Hearnes Center. That same weekend, Mizzou will also send wrestlers to the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo., on Nov. 17. After a weekend off around the Thanksgiving holiday, Mizzou will head to the Las Vegas Invitational from Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
The Tigers will then return home to face SIU-Edwardsville and Buffalo Dec. 9 and Dec. 16, respectively. The SIUE dual will be the annual Beauty and the Beast meet with a side-by-side competition with Mizzou Gymnastics on display. The dual with Buffalo will feature a kid's clinic.
Four days following the Buffalo dual, Mizzou will host Virginia on a neutral site at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Mo. Mizzou then rounds out the 2018 calendar year by traveling to the South Beach Duals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from Dec. 28 – 30.
The first match of the new year is scheduled at Ohio on Jan. 11. The following weekend, Mizzou will host Northern Iowa that Thursday (Jan. 17) and Central Michigan that Saturday (Jan. 19).
The Tigers then travel to Northern Illinois and Arizona State Jan. 25 and Feb. 8, respectively, before returning home. The Tigers host non-conference opponent Oklahoma State on Feb. 16 before traveling to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State to end the regular season on Feb. 24.
The MAC conference tournament is scheduled for March 8-9 in Virginia Beach, followed by the NCAA Tournament which is located in Pittsburgh, Pa., from March 21-23.
