Game Recap: Soccer |

@MizzouSoccer falls again in OT, losing to TCU 1-0

Tigers have forced four of their five games into overtime this season

COLUMBIA, Mo. — @MizzouSoccer (1-3-1) lost its second straight home game Sunday night, as TCU (5-0-1) scored six minutes into overtime to register a 1-0 win over the Tigers at Walton Stadium. The end of the game was nearly identical to the ending against Northwestern on Thursday, as unassisted goals broke the Tigers' hearts on both occasions.

Mizzou again defended well for upwards of 90 minutes, and like it has four times this season, forced the contest into overtime. The Tigers had a great opportunity to win it in the beginning of the first OT period, as junior defender Peyton Joseph (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) hit an absolute laser on goal. The ball was saved however, and TCU was able to counter to grab the winning golden goal. Mizzou is now 1-2-1 in OT games this season.

TURNING POINT

TCU forward Maddy Warren hit a perfect shot into the bottom right corner with less than six minutes remaining in the first overtime frame. Much like the Northwestern game, the goal was unassisted and unblockable.

Mizzou had dominated possession in the later portion of the second half, but again fell, 1-0.

TOP TIGERS

  • Redshirt junior Bethany Coons (Union, Mo.) tied a season-high in shots, registering four.
  • Freshman forward Skye Kingsley (Naperville, Ill.) and redshirt junior midfielder Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) each had three shots apiece. Both put one of their three shots on goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) recorded two saves and played 94 minutes. She now has 16 saves on the season.
  • Freshman Ariela Beharry (Coral Gables, Fla.) registered her second straight start.

QUOTABLES

"I love the fight from this group," head coach Bryan Blitz said. "That said, we have some things to figure out moving toward next week. Every time our kids come back to practice, they continue to put in the work. We will continue to do that. They will stick together and we are getting grittier and tougher."

UP NEXT

The Tigers travel to Los Angeles to play at Southern Cal on Friday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m. The Trojans are again ranked, landing at number seven in the most recent NSCAA Coaches Poll.
