@MizzouTennis Opens Mizzou Invite With Seven Singles Wins

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou tennis team nabbed seven singles victories during day one action Friday at the Mizzou Invite, held at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.

The four-team invitational saw morning singles competition between players from Denver and Wichita State, and then afternoon singles competition between Mizzou and Memphis. In between the two, the four teams joined for a quartet of doubles matches.

SINGLES

Seven different Tigers earned singles wins against Memphis Friday. Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks came back from a set down to post a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Laura Bente, while sophomore Ellie Wright picked up a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Arisha Ladhani.

Freshman Lisa Fukutoku breezed to a 6-4, 6-0 victory and freshman Vivien Ábrahám dropped her first set but rallied to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win. Additionally, sophomore Taylor Gruber defeated Josephine Cao, 6-1, 7-5, and junior Gabrielle Goldin earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Claire Sullivan.

DOUBLES

Mizzou picked up doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 action. Middlebrooks and Wright earned a 7-5 win, while junior Serena Nash and Fukutoku picked up a 6-2 win.
