Plassmeyer’s Complete Game Shutout Lifts No. 18 @MizzouBaseball Over Bama

Junior lefty turned in the best performance of his career in game one of a DH
COLUMBIA, Mo. – In the first game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Taylor Stadium, No. 18 Mizzou Baseball defeated Alabama, 1-0. Junior LHP Michael Plassmeyer threw a complete shutout game for the Tigers, the first of his career.
The game was a pitcher's duel at its finest, with neither starter allowing a run until the eighth inning. Plassmeyer retired an impressive 16 batters in a row from the first through sixth inning, both a career- and team-best this season.
TURNING POINT
Alabama threatened to score in the eighth inning following a two-out triple by 3B Cobie Vance, but Mizzou found their way out of the inning with the game still scoreless. To lead off the eighth for the Tigers, Senior OF Trey Harris reached second base on a dropped fly ball by Alabama in center, and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Harris crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Senior C Brett Bond to tally the run the Tigers needed to secure the game.

- Junior SP Michael Plassmeyer hurled a complete game shutout, the longest start of his career. It was the longest start for a Mizzou pitcher this season. Plassmeyer dominated Alabama batters all afternoon as he retired 16 straight in a stretch spanning from the first inning until the sixth. It was the longest streak of consecutive retired batters for a Mizzou pitcher this season and the longest of Plassmeyer's career. It was the first complete game shutout for a Mizzou pitcher since Cole Bartlett shut out Tennessee last season (5/19/17).
- With a pair of singles, Senior RF Trey Harris collected his 12th multi-hit game this season, the second-highest total on the team behind Kameron Misner. Harris scored Mizzou's game winning run in the bottom of the eighth giving him a team-high 38 runs scored this season.
- Junior IF Paul Gomez posted his fourth game this season with multiple walks. The junior has two four-walk games through ten starts this season.
- Senior C Brett Bond's eighth inning sacrifice fly gave Mizzou the lead. It was Bond's first RBI since 3/25 against Mississippi State. Bond extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single in the sixth inning.

- Plassmeyer has now made four straight starts with seven or more strikeouts. Overall, the St. Louis, Mo. Native has struck out at least seven in six of seven starts.
- Plassmeyer delivered first-pitch strikes to 30 of the 33 batters he faced.
- After totaling four hits yesterday against the Crimson Tide ,sophomore SS Chris Cornelius ripped a single in game one of the doubleheader today.
- Mizzou's go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning was only the second run allowed by Alabama reliever Dylan Duarte this season. .
