COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball has added transfer defensive specialist Katie Turner (Parker, Colo.) to its 2018 roster, announced Tuesday (May 1) by head coach Wayne Kreklow. Turner will join the Tigers this upcoming season as a true sophomore after spending 2017 at William & Mary University in Williamsburg, Virginia.
"We're very excited to have Katie join our program," Coach Kreklow said. "We've been impressed so far this semester with her work ethic, attitude towards training and of course, her ability as a player. She has good size and length as a libero, along with good foot speed and quickness. Katie is one of our most consistent and toughest servers as well at this point and does a great job of coming to practice everyday with good, positive energy. She's a great teammate and adds a lot to our team and program. We're very pleased to have her in Columbia!"
Turner appeared in all 30 matches a season ago for the Tribe, including two starts at libero. She paced William & Mary and ranked 10th overall in the Colonial Athletic Association with 3.17 digs per set. Turner was rock solid in the Tribe's back row throughout her freshman campaign, producing a .949 reception percentage on 494 total attempts.
She eclipsed double-digit digs in a match 19 times, including three occurrences with 20-plus digs. Turner's top individual match came in a Tribe's comeback victory over Elon (Oct. 25, 2017), as she recorded a career-high 27 digs.
Prior to her collegiate debut with William & Mary, Turner excelled as both an outside hitter and libero for Legend High School in Parker, Colorado. She played a pivotal role into Legend's back to back regional titles, while earning All-State and First-Team All-Conference honors during her 2016 senior campaign.
Turner left Legend as the school's all-time leader in reception percentage and service aces. Additionally, she possesses the school's all-time single-season marks in hitting percentage and digs per match.
Turner was a key member of the Colorado Volleyball Association club team throughout her high school career as well, which claimed a pair of tournament championships and national tournament appearances. Additionally, she competed with the High Performance Beach Volleyball team to round out an impressive all-around resume.
