COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou soccer's Savannah Trujillo (Kansas City, Mo.) was named the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) April Student-Athlete of the month, the organization announced this week. Trujillo was chosen for her determination to achieve success regardless of personal, academic and emotional challenges.
In the August 2016, Trujillo and the Tigers were in North Carolina for a preseason game when she received news that her mother was admitted to hospice after enduring a seven-year battle with breast cancer. Trujillo hopped on the first flight home and rushed to her mother's bedside. Within 48 hours, her mother lost her battle and passed away. During this very difficult time, the Mizzou coaching staff and her teammates showed unwavering support. With the help of the academic staff, Trujillo was able to make-up all the classes and assignments that she missed while caring for her mother and earned a 3.68 GPA during the semester.
Trujillo concluded her Tiger career this past fall, where she accumulated 33 points on 12 goals and nine assists in her four years in a Tiger uniform. She started 53 matches at midfield and forward and played in 79 total games in her career. As a senior in 2017, Trujillo tallied nine points on three goals and three assists and played a career-best 1,228 minutes.
