
Divers Set for This Week's NCAA Zone D Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou's men's and women's diving teams will vie for NCAA Championships berths as the programs compete at the three-day NCAA Zone D Diving Championships, March 5-7, at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Zone D consists of divers from 19 different schools.
The meet gets underway on Monday with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter competition. Following preliminaries, 18 divers will advance to finals, with scores carried over. Tuesday's events include men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter, while both men's and women's platforms will take place on Wednesday.
The top five female and top four male divers from each event at their respective zone diving meet will be eligible to compete at the NCAA championships. Additional place finishers in each event at each zone are eligible based on the number of student-athletes from that zone who finished in the top 16 in that event at the previous year's championships NCAA championships. Based on last year's NCAA performances, Zone D will advance 11 women on 1-meter and nine women on 3-meter and platform, while nine men will qualify on 1-meter, eight on 3-meter and six on platform.
Nine Tigers are slated to compete at the Championships. Men's competitors include senior Hunter Fritter (Houston, Texas), junior Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.), sophomores Will Gottsch (Elkhorn, Neb.) and Andy Kreiter (Beaverton, Ore.) and freshman Peter Lucido (St. Charles, Mo.), while seniors Alexa Beckwith (Denver, Colo.), Kendra Kieser (Plano, Texas) and Madeline McKernan (Montgomery, Texas) and Payton Conrad (Omaha, Neb.) will go on the women's side.
Goodwin and McKernan are both two-time NCAA Championships qualifiers. McKernan took home All-America first team accolades as a sophomore and Goodwin claimed All-America honorable mention honors on platform as a freshman. Beckwith and Fritter both earned their first Championships berth as juniors in 2017.
