@MizzouTennis Drops Close One to No. 24 Mississippi State, 4-1

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou Tennis team won the doubles point and forced third sets in all four singles matches, but No. 24 Mississippi State posted a 4-1 win Friday evening at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Facing a Bulldog team that was coming off a pair of wins over ranked squads while being unranked at the time, the Tigers (11-9, 0-6) picked up wins on Courts 2 and 3 to capture the doubles point. Senior co-captain Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) and sophomore Serena Nash (Bradford, England) posted a 6-3 win at No. 2, and sophomore Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Mississippi State (13-5, 4-3) won the first set of each of the first four singles matches, yet the Tigers (11-9, 0-6) fought back to win the second set on all four courts to force deciding third sets. Among those, freshman Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) was both down a set and 5-1 in the second before roaring back for a 7-6 (4) set win. In addition, Wright posted a 6-3 second-set win and nearly forced a tiebreak herself in the third before succumbing, 7-5.
