MINNEAPOLIS – Junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) of the Mizzou men's swimming and diving team claimed All-America honorable mention honors Friday evening during day three action at the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
With one day of competition remaining, the Tigers sit 22nd as a team with 25 points.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Previously a five-time All-American on relays, Schreuders earned individual All-America honors for the first time in his career Friday in the 200 free. The junior finished 10th overall in the event with a finals time of 1:33.16, only a hundredth of a second off the ninth-place finisher. His time of 1:33.16 was closely off the school record time of 1:32.92 set on the leadoff leg of Wednesday's 800 free relay.
In preliminary action, junior Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.) narrowly missed a place in the 3-meter consolation final. He finished 19th with 371.25 points, just over three points away from the final spot in the B final. Goodwin sat 35th halfway through prelims but used dives of 62.0, 67.5 and 76.5 in the final three rounds to push for a top 16 finish.
Additionally, sophomore Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Ill.) placed 26th in the 100 back (46.32).
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
"It was another tough day. We had a lot of great things but we aren't quite getting it done well enough as a team. We had some good individual swims. Mikel's race tonight was awesome. He moved up and was a hundredth away from winning the consolation final. He swam his race, raced into the wall, and good things happen when you do that."
