MINNEAPOLIS – Junior Jacob Wielinski (Mounds View, Minn.) of the Mizzou men's swimming and diving team claimed All-America honorable mention honors Saturday to cap competition at the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Missouri finished tied for 23rd in the final team standings with 29 points.
Two Tigers, Wielinski and junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba), garnered individual All-America honorable mention honors during the four-day meet. Additionally, Schreuders broke Mizzou's 200 free school record in his opening leg of Missouri's 10th-place 800 free relay.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Wielinski finished 13th overall in the 1650 after a swim of 14:44.75, narrowly off his school record set at last month's Southeastern Conference Championships. The All-America honorable mention accolades were the first of his career, as he qualified for the Championships for the first time this season. He also became the first Tiger in program history to claim All-America honors in the 1650 free.
In preliminary action, Mizzou's 400 free relay of Schreuders, sophomore Giovanny Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil), junior Sam Coffman (Centennial, Colo.) and freshman Grant Reed (Austin, Texas) finished 20th in 2:52.09. Schreuders' leadoff 50 free leg of 42.80 was a personal best, bettering his old time of 42.83.
