MINNEAPOLIS – The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team continued action at the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
KEY PERFORMANCES
The Tigers' 400 medley relay team of sophomore Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Ill.), junior Jordan O'Brien (Naperville, Ill.), sophomore Micah Slaton (Austin, Texas) and junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) narrowly missed a return swim, touching in 3:06.66 for 17th, one spot away from a place in the consolation final.
Junior Jacob Wielinski (Mounds View, Minn.) recorded a personal-best time of 4:19.84 in prelims of the 500 free, an improvement of one and a half seconds. His time also moved him into third all-time at Mizzou in the event.
Also going a best time was freshman Carter Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev.), who went 1:46.53 in the 200 IM, while sophomore Nick Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.) notched a 1:44.54, just off his best.
In the diving well, junior Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.) totaled a prelims score of 297.9, including three dives of 57.0 or higher.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
"We had some best times, we just didn't have best times where it counted or enough of them when it counted. That was Jordan's (O'Brien) best split by over half a second and his best 50 (breaststroke) ever going out. But we just couldn't get it done on the rest of the (400 medley) relay."
