Men's @MizzouSwimDive Sits Ninth After Day One of NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team opened the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with a ninth-place finish for All-America honorable mention accolades in the 800 free relay on Wednesday evening at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Tigers sit ninth as a team with 18 points with three full days of action remaining.
KEY SWIM
In the only event of the evening, the Tiger quartet of junior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba), sophomore Giovanny Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil), freshman Grant Reed (Austin, Texas) and junior Sam Coffman (Centennial, Colo.) notched a 6:15.75 in the race, less than a half a second off the school record. The ninth-place finish was a program best in the 800 free relay, bettering old high of 11th set in 2016.
Additionally, Schreuders broke his own 200 free school record with a 1:32.92 in the leadoff leg. He set the previous mark of 1:33.24 at the 2017 Mizzou Invite.
UP NEXT
Day two of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships begins Thursday, March 22 with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., diving prelims at 12:15 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
