
Early Offense Key in @MizzouBaseball’s 7-1 Win vs. La Salle

Junior LHP Plassmeyer dazzles in career-long start
COLUMBIA, Mo. – A phenomenal performance by junior LHP Michael Plassmeyer (St. Louis, Mo.) and an early offensive start led the Tigers to a 7-0 win over La Salle early Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Plassmeyer recorded 10 strikeouts in his 8.0 innings on the mound, allowing five hits and one run. Nine Tigers combined for 10 hits on the day, with senior C Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.) tallying two hits and a RBI. Junior DH Tony Ortiz (Olympia, Wash.) added three RBIs on a groundout in the first and a double to centerfield in the third inning.
Plassmeyer got the win, improving to 2-0 this season while losing pitcher, La Salle's Colin Kennedy, moved to 0-2. Freshman RHP Konner Ash (Plainfield, Ill.) pitched 1.0 inning, picking up one strikeout. Mizzou has now won seven straight games and moves to 12-3 on the season. La Salle drops to 4-9 on the year.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou's offensive spark in the first inning set the tone for the rest of the game. The Tigers stringed together five straight hits to score four runs.
Senior RF Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Ga.) jumpstarted the offense by singling up the middle, later scoring on a double to left-center by sophomore 1B Kameron Misner (Poplar Bluff, Mo.). Next, junior 3B Brian Sharp (Liberty, Mo.) added a single, driving in Misner. Junior LF Zach Hanna (Shawnee, Kan.) tallied a single to left-center bringing up senior C Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.) who doubled down the right field line, scoring Sharp. Junior DH Tony Ortiz (Olympia, Wash.) finished the rally with a RBI groundout.
TOP TIGERS
- Junior LHP Michael Plassmeyer pitched eight innings on Saturday afternoon, striking out 10 and allowing five hits and one run. This was the longest outing in his career and the second time he has tallied double-digit strikeouts (both this season).
- Junior DH Tony Ortiz brought in three RBIs on a groundout in the first inning and a double in the third inning. It was Ortiz's second multi-RBI game this season.
- Senior C Brett Bond went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double down the right field line in the first inning and a single in the third inning.
- Sophomore 1B Kameron Misner reached base two times on a double to left-center in the first inning and a walk in the third. Misner also tallied nine putouts while playing first base.
