
Alexander, Chadwick Named to U.S. 2019 Pan American Games Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou swimming junior Nick Alexander (St Louis, Mo.) and former Tiger Michael Chadwick) were named to the 2019 United States Pan American Games roster, USA Swimming announced on Tuesday. Alexander is slated to swim the 200 back and Chadwick will compete in the 50 and 100 free.
The swimming competition at the 2019 Pan American Games will run Aug. 6-10 in Lima Peru. The games are the world's third-largest international multisport Games, surpassed in size and score only by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games.
Alexander is a member of the USA Swimming 2018-19 National Team, which features the top six athletes in each individual Olympic event results from this summer. He was the fifth-fastest American in the 200 back (LCM) in 2018, notching a 1:57.18 in prelims at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in July. He ultimately finished eighth in the event at the Championships with a 1:58.49 in finals, and also posted finishes of 10th in the 100 back, 12th in the 50 back and 15th in the 200 IM at the meet.
This season, Alexander ranks sixth nationally in the 200 back (1:39.98), seventh in the 200 IM (1:43.04) and 13th in the 100 back (45.93). He was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week on No. 20 after three event wins, four personal best times and a school record (100 back) and the Mizzou Invite.
As a sophomore in 2018, Alexander made placed fifth in the 200 back at the SEC Championships and made his first NCAA Championships appearance.
Chadwick recently earned two gold medals at the 2019 FINA Short Course World Championships in Hangzhou, China. He and U.S. teammates Caeleb Dressel, Blake Pieroni and Ryan Held earned the gold medal in the men's 4x100m free relay on Dec. 11 with a world record time of 3:03.03. The old record of 3:30.30 was held by the U.S. as well and dated back to 2009. The former Tiger swam the third leg of the relay and clocked a split of 45.86 in the final.
Additionally, the U.S.'s 4x50m mixed medley took down another world record and claimed the gold on Wednesday. Chadwick earned his second gold of the Championships as a competitor on the U.S.'s relay in prelims.
A three-time U.S. National Team member, Chadwick won the 100m free national title at the 2018 U.S. Winter National Championships, beating Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian in the final. He concluded his collegiate career as the most decorated Tiger in program history in 200 as an 11-time first team and 11-time honorable mention All-American. Five of those first team honors came as an individual, including four over his last two seasons. He finished second in the 100 free at the 2017 NCAA Championships in a school record time of 40.95, which also made him the event's fourth-fastest performer in history. Chadwick also placed fourth in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 breast at NCAAs and swam on Mizzou's third-place 400 medley relay, fourth-place 200 medley relay and seventh-place 200 free relay teams at the Championships. He still holds the Tiger 50 free (18.97), 100 free (40.95) and 200 IM (1:43.01) records.
