COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior QB Drew Lock and senior WR Emanuel Hall both showed out on their senior day. But, that's nothing new for the duo; they've been the connection Mizzou fans could count on for the last two seasons.
Though Lock was excellent on the ground during the game, rushing for two scores, it became clear how much the senior quarterback depends on his favorite target. Of Lock's 221 passing yards, Hall was on the receiving end of 153 of them. Lock's touchdown passes were also both to Hall. It was a fitting end to their final season at Mizzou, a microcosm of how much the two seniors depended on each other the last two seasons.
"With me and Drew, you just kind of expect that connection," Hall said about his connection with his quarterback. "Through all the practices, throughout the years we know everything that we're about to do as far as our tendencies and everything. I think me and Drew have a really good connection and it's still like peanut butter and jelly; we go together."
The first of the two touchdown passes was an easy pitch and catch, as the two seniors connected on a six yard TD pass. It pushed the Tiger lead out to 28-0, and showed Lock's improved touch and Hall's ability as a possession receiver.
The second score, though, was what Mizzou fans have become accustomed to over the years: a bomb of a throw to a receiver that is just faster than everyone else on the field. And that's exactly what happened. Lock uncorked a ball, Hall made an a great adjustment to secure the catch and then took off running to score the 67-yard touchdown.
"He's a special player," Lock said of Hall. "It's been awesome getting to play with him and grow that connection."
Lock garners much of the acclaim, as he should. He has joined the elites of the SEC with his performance this season, ranking second in conference history in passing yards and third in touchdown passes. But it was clear how much he loved throwing to Hall over the years, and especially this season. The senior wide out missed games against South Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama, and his absence was felt. On the flip side, it was easy to see his greatness once he returned, as Mizzou has reeled off four straight with the sure-handed receiver back in the lineup.
"We need him. It's that simple," Lock said.
However, when asked about his quarterback, Hall is quick to heap the praise right back onto Lock.
"He's just a really good quarterback all around," Hall said of Lock. "You can see the natural talent he has. He has a leadership ability on and off the field. He's a complete quarterback and he'll probably play in the NFL until he's done playing."
For Mizzou, it doesn't really matter who gets the praise, because Mizzou fans could always count on the duo to make plays. And they went out with a familiar bang at Memorial Stadium.
