Two second quarter TOs lead to TDs; Mizzou tallies eight regular season wins for 17th time in program history
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football finished the regular season 8-4 (4-4 SEC) after earning a dominant, 38-0, win over SEC West rival Arkansas Friday afternoon on a rain-soaked Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium.
On senior day, a day when the program's 19 seniors were honored while playing their final home game, it was Mizzou's defense that was dominant from start to finish. The Tigers posted 8.0 tackles for loss, including a season-high 5.0 sacks, 4.0 of which came in the first half. Mizzou limited the Razorbacks to 187 total yards, including just 52 on the ground. It was Mizzou's first shutout over an FBS team since Nov. 28, 2010, against Iowa State.
Mizzou senior QB Drew Lock, playing in his final home game, went 16-for-25 for 221 yards and two TDs while rushing for two more scores. He exited the game in the fourth quarter to a standing-ovation from the crowd.
Mizzou has finished the regular season 8-4, marking the 17th time in program history that Mizzou has finished with eight wins in the regular season. Head coach Barry Odom is the first Mizzou head coach to win at least seven games in two of his first three seasons since Warren Powers (1978-80).
TURNING POINT
Mizzou broke the game open in the second quarter, highlighted by a pair of key defensive plays. Senior Terez Hall picked off Arkansas QB Ty Storey to set Mizzou up at the Razorback 35-yard line. The offense turned that into a three-yard TD run by Lock, extending Mizzou's lead to 14-0. On Arkansas' next possession, Jordan Elliott tallied his second sack of the afternoon, forcing a Storey fumble, which caromed into the end zone before Akial Byers jumped on it for a score as Mizzou took a three-score lead.
Mizzou took a 28-0 lead into the half, which was Arkansas' largest halftime deficit since 2014 (38-6 to No. 10 Georgia) and largest to an unranked team since 2000 (42-14 vs. Tennessee). Mizzou came out in the second half and scored on its first possession, a 67-yard strike from Lock to Emanuel Hall, and the Tigers ran away with the game from there.
