Alexander Named SEC Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Nick Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.) of the Mizzou men's swimming team was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. It marks the first SEC weekly honor of his career.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Nick Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.) of the Mizzou men's swimming team was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. It marks the first SEC weekly honor of his career.

Alexander won three events, set four personal best times and broke a Mizzou school record at last week's Mizzou Invite. He posted the nation's fastest 200 back time (1:39.98) and go under 1:40 for the first time in his career. She also claimed wins in both the 100 back in a school record 45.93 and in the 200 IM in 1:43.04, only three-hundredths of a second off the Mizzou mark. In addition to ranking first nationally in the 200 back, Alexander also ranks third in the 200 IM, seventh in the 100 back and 18th in the 100 fly. Overall, he has a team-best seven event titles so far this season.

Alexander is a member of the USA Swimming 2018-19 National Team, which features the top six athletes in each individual Olympic event results from this summer. He was the fifth-fastest American in the 200 back (LCM) in 2018, notching a 1:57.18 in prelims at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in July. He ultimately finished eighth in the event at the Championships with a 1:58.49 in finals, and also posted finishes of 10th in the 100 back, 12th in the 50 back and 15th in the 200 IM at the meet. 

As a sophomore in 2018, Alexander made placed fifth in the 200 back at the SEC Championships and made his first NCAA Championships appearance.
