KEY PERFORMANCES
Seven different Tigers claimed event wins during day one action.
Junior Nick Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.) missed a school record by three-hundredths of a second but still took top honors in the 200 IM with a 1:43.04. In the women's 200 IM, senior Kylie Dahlgren (Victoria, Minn.) breezed to the win with a 1:56.92, less than half a second off her person best in the event.
The Tigers also swept both 100 fly races. Senior Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) earned the win on the women's side in 51.56, while junior Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Ill.) placed first in the men's event with a personal best 46.18.
In the diving well, senior Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.) scored 352.25 points in the final for his fifth win on the 2018-19 season.
Junior Giovanny Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was just off his personal best in the 500 free as he took first in 4:17.77. He dropped over two seconds off his prelims time and moved into second all-time at Mizzou in the event.
Senior Luke Mankus (Keller, Texas) picked up his first win of the season with a victory in the 50 free with a 19.58 in the evening session.
The Tigers earned an NCAA 'A' qualifying time in the women's 200 free relay, as Ochitwa, junior Haley Hynes (Lee's Summit, Mo.), freshman Megan Keil (Derby, Kan.) and sophomore Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.) touched in 1:28.38. The time was also good enough for second all-time in program history.
Additionally, the men's 400 medley relay team claimed an 'A' cut as well, as Alexander, senior Jordan O'Brien (Naperville, Ill.), junior Micah Slaton (Austin, Texas) and senior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) went 3:05.95.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Interim Head Coach Andrew Grevers
"Starting off on a good note tonight really set us up for a successful evening. We follow the Missouri model. We like to train very hard in the fall. Then we take a nice little rest into this meet, along with a shave, and that means they're ready to go and qualify for NCAAs. We had a lot of amazing swims today. Annie Ochitwa might have punched her ticket to NCAAs this morning. Nick Alexander's 200 IM missed Michael Chadwick's school record by three-hundredths. We had several great swims out of Haley Hynes, she went very fast in her 50 free and same in her 100 back."
