COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball sophomore OH Kylie Deberg (Hudson, Iowa) and redshirt freshman S Andrea Fuentes (San Juan, Puerto Rico) were each recognized in the Southeastern Conference's Week Seven Volleyball Players of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. Deberg was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Fuentes garnered Setter of the Week honors.
"We're very proud of both Kylie and Andrea," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "They both had great weekends and were instrumental in our two wins. Our entire group has been working very hard the past couple of weeks and it showed this past weekend versus South Carolina and Arkansas."
The honor marks both Deberg and Fuentes' first career weekly award by the SEC office. The duo joins senior MB Alyssa Munlyn and sophomore OH Leketor Member-Meneh as Tigers to earn weekly recognitions by the SEC this year. Munlyn tallied Week Two Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Member-Meneh was recently tabbed Week Five Offensive Player of the Week.
Deberg was fantastic this past weekend, leading Mizzou in kills (30), kills per set (5.00), aces (four), points (35.0) and points per set (5.83). She posted double-digit kills on .340-plus hitting in both matches, despite each contest only lasting three sets.
The Tiger outside hitter has eclipsed 10-plus kills in 17 of 18 matches played this season. Deberg's 16 kills last Friday against South Carolina ranked tied for second-most by an SEC player in a conference three-set match this year. She concluded her weekend with 14 additional kills and a career-high four aces versus Arkansas.
With Mizzou moving to a 5-1 offensive system, Fuentes responded in a big way with back to back outstanding efforts at setter. She recorded 35-plus assists in each matchup this past weekend, finishing with an impressive 12.00 assists per set overall.
Fuentes' consistency at the setter position led to the Tiger offense clicking on all cylinders. Over its recent two-match stretch, Mizzou collectively produced 90 kills (15.00 per set) on .340 hitting, highlighted by a season-high .402 hitting percentage in its victory over South Carolina.
