Cisneros wins the weekly award on the heels of three goal weekend
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Freshman forward Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named the SEC's Freshman of the Week after two standout performances against Ole Miss and LSU.
In the Tigers' 2-1 loss at LSU, Cisneros sparked the Tigers late, scoring her third goal of the season in the 87th minute to breath hope back into the Tiger attack in the final moments. The goal was the easiest of the weekend for Cisneros, as she poked the ball in off a redirected header from redshirt junior Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) on a corner kick served up by junior defender Peyton Joseph (Highlands Ranch, Colorado).
Cisneros was magic in the Tigers' 2-1 win vs. Ole Miss on Thursday. Her first goal in that game was similar to the goal in the LSU game. Cisneros headed the ball in off a headed assist from junior forward Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.), who received the ball on a cross from junior defender Anna Frick (Webster Groves, Mo.). Cisneros headed it low and left, and Ole Miss' goalkeeper had no chance to save it.
Her second goal came in the 86th minute of that game, which at that point was level at 1-1. Luebbert received a nice through ball from Frick, but instead shooting it, played it back to Cisneros at the edge of the 18-yard box. Cisneros struck it one-touch, and the ball flew into the back corner of the net to seal the win for the Tigers.
The three goals Cisneros scored against the Rebels and Tigers of LSU were the first three of her career. She becomes the first Freshman of the Week honoree for Mizzou since Luebbert received the honor back in October of 2016. Cisneros now shares the team lead with Luebbert for goals scored.
