Tigers get three postseason award honorees for first time since 2016
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior forward Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.) earned First Team All-SEC honors, senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) earned Second Team All-SEC honors, and freshman forward Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named to the SEC All-Freshman team, the Southeastern Conference office announced October 28. The awards were voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.
Luebbert becomes one of just five players in Mizzou Soccer history to earn First Team All-SEC honors on the back of another stellar season leading Mizzou's attack. This season, Luebbert led her team in all relevant offensive categories, including goals (11), assists (3), shots (41), shots on goal (22) and game winning goals (2) while taking on more defensive responsibility. With her numbers this season, Luebbert has now propelled herself into Mizzou Soccer lore, as she is now one of just ten Tiger soccer players ever with at least 20 goals and 54 total points.
Luebbert was also voted a captain as just a junior in the first year Mizzou Soccer has ever picked captains via a teammate vote. The Jefferson City product had previously been named to the Second Team All-SEC in her first two seasons, including winning the Newcomer of the Year award following her outstanding freshman campaign.
Dossey earned her first ever SEC postseason honor on the heels of her best season between the posts. Dossey registered career highs in both saves (77) and fewest goals allowed (20), both of which are the 10th best single-season marks in program history. Following her stellar senior season, Dossey's name is now etched all over Mizzou Soccer's record book. The senior finds herself in the top-five in the following statistical categories: wins (fifth - 24); shutouts (fourth - 11); appearances (second - 61), starts (T-2nd- 55) and saves (4th - 200).
Dossey had several great performances throughout the season, including four shutouts and a world class performance against Tennessee in the regular season finale. Though she did allow two goals, the senior goalkeeper showed her class with nine saves, including three at the expense of SEC Offensive Player of the Year Bunny Shaw from less than 10 yards away.
Cisneros, meanwhile, is just the fourth Tiger ever named to the SEC's All-Freshman team, with Luebbert being the last to do so back in 2016. Cisneros did her damage over a four game stretch that started with Vanderbilt and ended on the road at LSU. During that period, the freshman tallied all seven of her points this season, which was the second most on the team.
Cisneros brought necessary flair to a Tiger team full of great athletes, and that was never more apparent than when she earned her first career assist and point off a bicycle kick assist against Vanderbilt. However, Cisneros really asserted herself against Ole Miss, where she had both of the Tigers' goals, including the game winner on a beautiful one-touch laser in the 85th minute to put the Rebels away.
Mizzou begins postseason play at the 2018 SEC Tournament on Sunday, October 28, taking the pitch at 1 p.m. CT in a rematch against LSU.
