BUDAPEST – Former Mizzou Wrestling standout J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.) claimed the World Championship at 92 kg after defeating Ivan Yankouski of Belarus, 4-1, in the finals, Monday afternoon. This is Cox's second medal at the Senior World Championships after taking home bronze in the event a year ago.
Cox enters rarified air with the Gold Medal win. He becomes just the ninth member of the United States Men's Freestyle Team to join the 3-for-3 club, winning medals in their first three appearances in both the Senior World Games/Olympic Games. This is his first Gold Medal after earning bronze at least year's senior World Championships and the 2016 Olympics.
In the first period, Cox claimed a 1-0 lead after what is essentially a stalling point was awarded to Cox as Yankouski failed to take a shot. He earned another shot clock point in round two before registering a two-point takedown to close the match and win a 4-1 decision.
