COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country will run for the final time this regular season before entering postseason competition, as the team will send runners to both the National Open and the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday. The National Open takes place in University Park, Pa., while the Bradley Pink Classic will be held in Peoria, Ill.
The Bradley Pink Classic will feature five races, with the Tigers racing in the women's 6k at 3:15 p.m. (CT) and the men's 8k race at 4 p.m. (CT).
At the National Open, the women will start the Tigers off with a 6k race starting at 9:45 a.m. (CT) followed by the men's 5.2 mile race beginning at 10:30 a.m. (CT). Friday's race at University Park will be the toughest test of the season thus far for the Tigers, as many nationally ranked opponents will be competing.
The Mizzou men enter the race ranked 12th in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, while the women are ranked eighth.
For the women, the Tigers will look to build on their performance from last race where they placed fifth at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational (Sept. 29). Nine Tigers will compete at the National Open for the women, while the remaining 13 will run for the women at the Bradley Pink Classic. Freshman Tori Findley (Blue Springs, Mo.) paced the Tigers in their last appearance with a first place team finish and placed 13th overall. Redshirt junior Sophia Racette (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Mikayla Reed (Washington, Mo.) will also be expected to contribute.
On the men's side, Mizzou will be looking to improve on their showing from their previous appearance at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational where they had two runners place in the top-10. Eight runners for the men will compete at the National Open while the remaining seven will race at the Bradley Pink Classic. Junior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, U.K.) will look to build on his previous appearance as he finished first for the team for the first time this season, while also placing fifth overall. Redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) also finished top-10 in his last performance with a sixth-place overall finish.
Friday's races will be the last meets for Mizzou before entering postseason competition. Mizzou will head south to Auburn, Ala., for the SEC Championships on Oct. 26, north to Peoria, Ill., for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 9, and further north to Madison, Wis., for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17.
