#ShowMe Mizzou Game Notes
The Matchup
- Mizzou Football, fresh off of a dominant 51-14 season-opening win over UT Martin in week one, returns home Saturday (Sept. 8) for a nonconference tilt against Wyoming. The game is set to air on ESPNU with Dave Lamont, Anthony Becht and Rocky Boiman on the call. Mizzou is looking to move to 2-0 on the year, which would mark the first time since 2015 that the Tigers would have won their first two games of a season.
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH THE COWBOYS
- Saturday will mark the first all-time meeting between Mizzou and Wyoming. The last time Mizzou played a Mountain West Conference foe was in 2010 when the Tigers rallied to defeat San Diego State, 27-24, on what became to be known was the 'Moe Miracle' in the final minute of play. Wideout T.J. Moe took a short four-yard pass deep in his own territory and made a couple of men miss to break a 68-yard gain down the home sideline to put Mizzou on top, 27-24, with 51 seconds left to earn the win.
STILL ROLLING
- After Mizzou's season-opening win over UT Martin, Barry Odom's team has now won its last seven regular season games and is 7-1 in its last eight games overall. In the last seven regular season games (excluding the bowl game), Mizzou is averaging 51.3 points per game and has scored 45 points or more in all seven wins. Coach Odom is one of just eight FBS head coaches to win at least seven of their last eight regular season games. Below is the list:
• Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma): 8-0
• Scott Frost (UCF/Nebraska): 8-0 (all eight wins at UCF)
• Ed Orgeron (LSU): 7-1
• Dabo Swinney (Clemson): 7-1
• Kirby Smart (Georgia): 7-1
• Urban Meyer (Ohio State): 7-1
• Barry Odom (Mizzou): 7-1
LOCKED IN OVER LAST EIGHT
- As mentioned above, Mizzou is riding high as of late, winning seven of its last eight games. In those eight games, there has been one common theme: the elite-level play of senior QB Drew Lock. In that span, Lock's numbers have looked as impressive as any other quarterback in college football. Below is a snapshot:
- Record: 7-1
- 154-for-244 (63.1%)
- 2,530 yards (316.3 per game)
- 31 touchdowns
- 6 interceptions
- 187.22 rating
- In last Saturday's win over UT Martin, Lock was tremendous and put up video game numbers despite playing in just one series in the second half. Lock completed 19-of-25 passes for 289 yards and four TDs. Lock led eight drives last Saturday and Mizzou scored on seven of those (six TDs). The only drive that he led that Mizzou did not score on began with 1:31 remaining in the first half as the Tigers elected to let time expire.
LOCK MOVES INTO SECOND IN MIZZOU HISTORY
- After passing for 289 yards on 19 completions last week (15.2 ypc.), senior QB Drew Lock moved his career passing yard total to 8,984, which is second in Mizzou history, passing Mizzou legend Brad Smith in the process. Lock threw for 4 touchdowns in the game, marking the ninth time in his career he has thrown for 4+ touchdowns in the same game.
- Lock registered his 24th career game with over 200 yards passing against UT Martin. Lock now only trails Chase Daniel in the category, who has the most such games in Mizzou history, with 38.
- Lock's passer rating on the day was a stellar 225.9, which is the sixth-best mark for a single game in Mizzou history.
DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE.
- While it was easy to come away impressed with Mizzou's game following last Saturday's win, most likely overlooked was a key part of the game that Mizzou was very impressive in: discipline. Mizzou committed just four penalties (4-for-45) in the win, the fewest penalties in a season opener since 2013. That year, Mizzou was whistled twice against Murray State for just 20 yards in a 58-14 home win. Staying on the topic of discipline, Mizzou also did a great job protecting the ball Saturday, finishing without a turnover in a season opener for the first time since 2014. Those two areas - penalties and ball security - have been points of emphasis for head coach Barry Odom and his veteran team has seemed to get the message early in 2018.
EMAN WITH CAREER DAY
- Senior WR Emanuel Hall went for 171 receiving yards against the Skyhawks, which set a new career high. Hall's previous high came against Georgia a season ago (10/14/17) when he had 141 yards.
- Hall registered his seventh career 100+ yard game against UT Martin. Hall had five such games a season ago, and last accomplished the feat against Arkansas (11/24/17), when he went for 111 yards on just two catches.
- Hall also had two touchdowns against the Skyhawks. It was the fourth time in his career that Hall grabbed multiple receiving touchdowns in the same game.
- Over his last nine games (he missed the majority of the Texas Bowl with a tweaked hamstring), Hall has arguably been the nation's most dynamic deep threat, catching 32 passes for a whopping 884 yards. That is good for an incredible 27.6 yards per catch. Nine of his last 10 TD grabs have been from 31 yards or longer with a 46.1 average.
