After a Mizzou win at Purdue last Saturday, Mizzou WR Jalen Knox (Mansfield, Texas) earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors.
Knox hauled in five catches for 110 yards and his first career touchdown in a performance against the Boilermakers. Once news of the award made its way to Knox, he was surprised and honored.
"I was sleeping, Knox said. "After I felt my phone going off, I looked and saw Missouri had tagged me in something, when I saw what it was I was overwhelmed."
The freshman hit a huge accomplishment versus Purdue last Saturday. Knox became just the fourth true freshman in Mizzou history to amass a 100-yard receiving game.
"In college it is such a different feeling," Knox said. "There is so much adrenaline and emotion going through you, having everyone celebrating behind you is a good feeling."
After Missouri announced the award on social media, Knox received a shout-out on twitter from former MU wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin.
"As soon as he tweeted I sent it to my home boys and said: 'I don't know how to react right now,'" Knox said.
The undefeated Tigers have a huge matchup against No. 2/3 Georgia at The Zou Saturday. Despite the team defeating its first three opponents, the freshman is preparing for highly-ranked Georgia to be significantly tougher competition.
"I just keep working on the small things and my game, whether it's my route running or more stuff in the weight room and getting bigger."
Kickoff against No. 2/3 Georgia is set for 11 a.m. CT at Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.
