University of Missouri rising senior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) used a four-under par 68 in today's final round of play at the 2018 English Women's Amateur Championship to finish in sixth place in the prestigious tournament, held at The Wilmslow Golf Club in Cheshire, England. Allen's strong final round moved her three spots up the leaderboard today, and left her just three shots of the eventual champion in the 72-hole competition. Allen, who represented Meon Valley Golf & Country Club, finished with a four-round total of 283 (five-under par), including rounds of 73-72-70-68. Her final-round 68 on Thursday was the second-lowest in the field.
In the final round, Allen made a big move in her final nine, as she carded birdies on holes number 11, 12 and 15 to pull to within two shots of the overall lead. She closed with solid pars on each of the final three holes, but couldn't make up any more ground on the leaders. The tournament field included 144 of England's top amateurs, and featured 18-holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The top 40 following the first two rounds moved on to a final day which featured 36 holes.
Allen will be one of the leaders for Mizzou's 2018-19 squad this upcoming season, as she was second on the team this past season with a 73.58 stroke average (which ranked as the sixth-best in program history). She also was a standout in the classroom, earning 2018 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll status for her efforts.
