Mizzou’s Kessinger & Romaine Receive 2018 NFCA All-Region Honors

Mizzou Softball sophomore Cayla Kessinger (Saugus, Calif.) and junior Kolby Romaine (Chino Hill, Calif.) received 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Southeast All-Region honors, announced Thursday by the organization.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball sophomore Cayla Kessinger (Saugus, Calif.) and junior Kolby Romaine (Chino Hill, Calif.) received 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Southeast All-Region honors, announced Thursday by the organization.
 
In all, 389 total student-athletes from 164 programs garnered 2018 NFCA All-Region accolades. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

Kessinger tallied First-Team All-Region recognition at DP or Utility / Non-Pitcher, while Romaine received Second-Team All-Region honors at the same position. The duo each produced their first career All-Region awards, while becoming Mizzou Softball's 16th and 17th all-time NFCA Southeast All-Region honorees since joining the Southeastern Conference in 2013.
 
Kessinger emerged as one of the Tigers' top power threats in her sophomore campaign. She tied for the team lead in home runs (10) while ranking tied for third in doubles (10). Kessinger particularly stepped up her production in SEC only action, hitting .319 with 11 runs scored, five doubles, six home runs, nine RBI, 45 total bases and .652 slugging percentage.
 
She was tabbed Second-Team All-SEC earlier this month (May 8), marking her first career postseason honor by the league office.
 
Romaine has been a consistent force in the Mizzou lineup all season, resetting single-season career-highs in average (.336), hits (41), home runs (six), RBI (25) and slugging percentage (.533). The eventual everyday Tiger right fielder also emerged as one of the Tigers' top threats in conference play, leading the team in average (.367) and hits (22).
 
Similar to Kessinger, Romaine also received Second-Team All-SEC honors a week ago, marking her first career award from the league.
