@MizzouMensGolf Sits in Seventh After Day One of SEC Championship

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Men's Golf sits in seventh overall after day one of action at the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Georgia at the Par-70 Sea Island Golf Club. The Tigers shot an opening-round 7-over par 284. Mizzou is in front of five ranked teams through 18 holes, including No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 7 Florida, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 34 Ole Miss and No. 38 South Carolina. The Tigers need to finish in the Top 8 overall after stroke play to advance to Saturday's match play quarterfinals.

Senior Hayden Buckley and sophomore Rory Franssen each fired 1-over par 71s on Wednesday to lead Mizzou. The duo is tied for 18th individually. Buckley tallied a pair of birdies, finishing his round with four pars and a birdie on his last five holes. Franssen shot even par on his final nine rounds of the day and also finished with four pars and a birdie on his final five holes.

Senior Trevor Ullestad carded a 2-over 72, racking up six birdies during his opening round, including three in his last nine holes. Ullestad is tied for 28th.

Junior Matt Echelmeier and freshman Jamie Stewart followed behind with a 73 and 75, respectively. Echelmeier sits tied for 36th while Stewart is tied for 53rd.

Mizzou continues play at the SEC Championship on Thursday in Sea Island.
