COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou Men's Golf program helped raise $3,210 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

The Mizzou Men's Golf team partnered with LLS during the 2018 Tiger Invitational on April 9 and 10. The squad asked fans to pledge a monetary amount for every birdie the team recorded during the tournament. Mizzou captured the Tiger Invitational team title and collected an impressive 86 birdies in the process. The Columbia community's support and the Birdie Challenge resulted in more than $3,000 being given to cancer research.

"We're so appreciative of Mizzou fans and the community for helping us and supporting this initiative," head coach Mark Leroux said. "It means so much to us working with a cause that's bigger than golf. Our program, like so many people around the world, has been directly affected by cancer and we wanted to do our part to fight the disease and help those dealing with its impacts."

Since 1949, LLS has been an organization dedicated to attempting to change the landscape of cancer with more than 300 active research projects that explore different avenues of new research with the hope of finding a cure as quickly as possible.

"We're thankful we could use our platform to help the fight against cancer," said senior golfer and Tiger Invitational Champion Hayden Buckley. "Our fans and supporters really rallied around the cause and we can't thank them enough."
