No. 11 @MizzouWBB Set for Rematch with No. 9 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, MO. - No. 11 Mizzou Women's Basketball (17-3, 5-2) travels to Columbia, South Carolina, for a rematch with No. 9 Gamecocks on Sunday. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN2. Mizzou is looking for its third consecutive victory over South Carolina. The Tigers topped the then-No. 4 Gamecocks, 83-74, on Jan. 7. Mizzou is in the midst of a three-game stretch against ranked opponents. Head coach Robin Pingeton's squad is out to its best start to league play at 5-2 since joining the SEC in 2012.

No. 11 Mizzou and No. 9 South Carolina Set for Rematch

  • Mizzou's 5-2 mark in SEC action is already its best to start to league play since the Tigers joined the conference in 2012.
  • The Tigers have won 10 of their last 12 regular season SEC games. Mizzou owns a winning streak against eight of 13 SEC opponents.
  • Mizzou's Jan. 7 victory over No. 4 South Carolina was its fourth win in program history against a team ranked in the top four of the AP poll. Before the victory over the Gamecocks, the last such win came against No. 4 Baylor when the Tigers won 64-61 on Jan. 4, 2006. 
  • Mizzou is now 6-0 against Top 25 teams at Mizzou Arena since Jan. 4, 2016.
  • Mizzou ranks fifth in the nation and first in the SEC in rebounding defense, holding opponents to just 30.2 rebounds per game.
  • The Tigers have outrebounded their opponent 18 times in 20 games this season. They have grabbed 40+ rebounds as a team 10 times in the past 12 games.
  • Mizzou ranks 6th in the nation in rebounding margin (+10.6) and leads the SEC.
  • Mizzou has outrebounded opponents by 10+ boards in a game on 12 different ocassions, including 10 times since Dec. 8.The Tigers rank second in the SEC in free throw percentage, shooting 75.4 percent. Mizzou set a program record last season, shooting 80.2 percent at the line.
  • Mizzou has spent all 12 weeks of the season in the Top 25 in the AP poll. The Tigers spent just seven weeks ranked all of last season. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, Mizzou has spent 25 weeks in the Top 25. Mizzou's current No. 11 ranking is the highest in the Pingeton era. 
  • Mizzou has been ranked for 16 consecutive weeks over two seasons. That is the 14th-longest such streak in the nation.
  • Junior Sophie Cunningham is the only player in the nation shooting at least 86 percent from the free throw line, 46 percent from 3-point range AND 56 percent from the field. In the last two games vs. South Carolina, Cunningham averaged 26.5 points (scoring 27 this season and 26 last season), making 19-of-26 field goal attempts.
  • Cuninngham ranks sixth in the nation among active players in career free throw percentage, shooting 84.7 percent at the line. 
  • Redshirt senior Jordan Frericks ranks 10th in the nation among active players in career rebounds with 944. She is just the fourth Tiger in program history to surpass 900 career rebounds and enters Sunday's game two boards shy of moving into third on Mizzou's all-time career rebounds list.
  • Frericks now has 1,287 career points, which currently ranks 8th among active SEC players. Her 944 career rebounds rank third. She is one of only three players in the league have more than 1,000 career points and 900 career rebounds.
  • Sophomore guard Amber Smith has moved from a stretch-4 to a wing position and has settled in, scoring 13.0 points per game in league play, which ranks 21st in the SEC. She's also grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game and shooting 49.3% in SEC action. Smith has 10 blocked shots in league play after swatting nine during non-con.
  • Smith has 196 points this season after scoring 195 a year ago.

Mizzou vs. South Carolina

  • Mizzou and South Carolina square off for the second time this season and eighth time in their program histories on Sunday.
  • Mizzou is looking for a third consecutive victory over the Gamecocks. The Tigers are 3-1 at Mizzou Arena vs. South Carolina, but still searching for their first win at Colonial Life Arena.
