EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Mizzou senior swimmer Sharli Brady (Burlington, Kentucky) claimed the women's 400 IM title Friday at the 2017 U.S. Open Swimming Championships. Brady entered finals seeded second but knocked four seconds off her preliminary time to take home the win in the finals session.
The U.S. Open, which runs Aug. 2-Aug. 6 at the Nassau County Aquatics Center, is a championship meet sanctioned by USA Swimming and is open to U.S. and international swimmers.
Brady, who sat second after the breaststroke leg, outsplit the leader 1:04.64-1:05.96 in the freestyle to pull into first and claim the victory. Her time of 4:42.70 was a new personal best, besting her previous low of 4:44.28 set in June. Brady has dropped more than eight seconds off her 400 IM LCM time from last year's Olympic Trials.
The senior is a six-time All-American for the Tigers in her three years with the program. She earned All-America first team honors in the 400 IM this season after placing seventh in the event at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Brady also holds Mizzou's 200 fly and 400 IM school marks.
