TAIPEI, Taiwan – Mizzou senior swimmer Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) claimed a silver medal in the 100m back Wednesday at the 2017 World University Games at the National Taiwan Sport University Arena in Taipei, Taiwan.
Representing the United States, Stevens earned second place in the event after a finals swim of 1:00.23, close behind gold medalist Sian Whittaker of Australia, who won in 1:00.14. She entered finals seeded sixth after a 1:00.76 in the semifinals and a 1:00.82 in preliminary heats on Tuesday.
The senior is also slated to swim the 50m back on Thursday and on Team USA's 4x100 medley relay on Saturday.
The World University Games concludes a busy summer for Stevens, who also represented Team USA at the recent World Championships in Budapest. At the meet, she placed ninth in the 50 back, missing a spot in the finals by one placement. Her 50m back time of 27.63 in Budapest tied the time she notched to claim the U.S. 50 back national title in June at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
A two-time U.S. National Team member, Stevens finished third in the 100 back at the 2016 NCAA Champions and fifth in the 100m back at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She owns 10 total All-American honors, five first team and five honorable mention. She also claimed All-Southeastern Conference second team honors in 2017 with a runner-up finish in the 100 back at the SEC Championships.
