INDIANAPOLIS – The Mizzou men's and women's swimming teams concluded competition Saturday at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships, held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Michael Chadwick and Hannah Stevens secured spots on the U.S. World Championship Team on Saturday thanks to performances earlier in the week.
Chadwick and Stevens join four other Tigers slated to compete at the 2017 FINA World Championships later this month in Budapest. Jordy Groters and Mikel Schreuders will represent Aruba, Azra Avdic will swim for Peru, while diver Lauren Reedy is on the U.S. team.
Stevens made the U.S. team thanks to a first-place finish in the 50 back on Thursday, while Chadwick's fifth-place performance in the 100 free gave the 2017 senior a spot on the men's 4x100 free relay at the World Championships.
Over the course of the five-day National Championships, 22 Tigers competed and compiled five top eight finishes. Chadwick and Stevens had two top eight finishes apiece, while Katharine Ross added one of her own.
In addition to her win in the 50 free, Stevens placed third in the 100 back. Chadwick earned a seventh-place finish in the 50 free to go with his fifth-place finish in the 100 free, while Ross took seventh in the 100 breast.
Additionally, Haley Hynes took ninth in the 50 back, Caleb Hicks 10th in the 50 breast and Sharli Brady 11th in the 400 IM.
The 2017 FINA World Championships run July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary.
