Nash joins the Tigers after a season at Oklahoma
COLUMBIA, MO. - Mizzou Tennis has signed a talented transfer in Serena Nash, head coach Colt Gaston announced on Thursday. Nash comes to the Tigers after a solid freshman campaign at the University of Oklahoma.
"I am very excited about the addition of transfer Serena Nash," Gaston said. "She is a hard worker that plays a very aggressive game style, and I believe she will make an impact on our team right away. "
Nash joins fellow newcomers Ellie Wright and Marta Oliveira, who signed National Letters of Intent to play for Mizzou next season. Nash is immediately eligible and has three years remaining.
"I chose Mizzou because the coaching staff and the girls on the team are great and it's a family atmosphere," Nash said. "I'm really excited about having a fresh start at Mizzou and I'm ready to get to work."
Nash, a native of Bradford, England, was ranked No. 1 in Great Britain in the 16-and-under field, No. 11 in the 18-and-under rankings and as high as No. 26 in the overall women's division in Great Britain. She was successful on the International Tennis Federation junior circuit. Most notably, she was a Taunton Tier 1 British Tour winner and qualified for the Loughborough $15,000 Tournament, advancing to the third round with a win over an individual ranked in the ITF Top-350.
At Oklahoma, Nash got experience playing at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions for the Sooners during dual play, going 1-0 at the top spot. She and partner, Ann Selim, posted a 5-2 record this spring as a pairing. During the fall, Nash went 8-6 in singles action, including a 3-1 mark at the Division I Women's Central Regional Championship and 3-1 record at the OU Invitational. She added five doubles wins in the fall.
Although Mizzou Tennis' regular season came to a close following a 4-2 loss against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament last month, the Tigers' top doubles duo Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio), recently became the first Mizzou pairing to earn a trip to the NCAA Women's Doubles Tournament since 2003. Santos and Ismail will launch action on May 24 as the opening round is set to begin in Athens, Ga.
