
Five Top-Five Finishes for @MIZ_TrackField on Day One of Crimson Tide Invite

Van Zyl records a third place finish in the javelin, Keating places fourth in the hammer throw
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mizzou Track & Field recorded five top-five finishes on the first day of competition at the Crimson Tide Invite on Friday, including a third-place finish in the javelin from redshirt senior Reinhard Van Zyl (Hoedspruit, South Africa). Mizzou also recorded top-five finishes in the men's and women's hammer throw, as well as the women's 5000m run.
The duo of Van Zyl and redshirt junior Alex Pascal (Cayman Islands) finished third and fourth in the javelin, respectively. Van Zyl recorded a throw of 66.49m (218-1) in his fifth toss, while Pascal posted a season-best mark of 66.23m (217-3) to finish fourth.
In the hammer throw, Mizzou posted three top-10 finishes, two in the men's competition and one in the women's. For the women, sophomore Rebecca Keating (Reading, England) finished fourth with a throw of 57.89m (189-11), a throw which was just two feet short of her personal best mark of 58.50m (191-11). On the men's side, redshirt senior Ahren Bohanan (St. Charles, Mo.) and redshirt freshman Patrick Kunza (Wentzville, Mo.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Bohanan recorded a throw of 58.22m (191-0), while Kunza posted a personal record toss of 57.91m (190-0) to earn the sixth place finish.
After leading for a majority of the race, redshirt junior Nicole Mello (Columbia, Mo.) ended up finishing fifth in the 5000m run, the final event of the night for the Tigers. Mello crossed the finish line with a time of 16:58.24 to earn the top-five finish.
Day two of the Crimson Tide Invite continues tomorrow, with field events beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT and track events at 3 p.m. CT.
