COLUMBIA, Mo. – Five members of the Mizzou men's swimming team earned individual invitations to the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced on Wednesday. Seniors Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, North Carolina), Carter Griffin (Parker, Colorado), Andrew Sansoucie (Wentzville, Missouri) and Fabian Schwingenschlogl (Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany) and freshman Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) will all represent the Tigers at the Championships, March 22-25, at the IUPIU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Missouri is also eligible to swim all five relays: the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. The Tigers' relay-only swimmers include senior Nick Davis (Chesterfield, Missouri), sophomores Sam Coffman (Centennial, Colorado) Luke Mankus (Keller, Texas) and freshman Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Illinois).
Reigning national champion Schwingenschlogl earned his fourth career NCAA berth with entries in the 100 and 200 breast. The senior enters the meet as the top seed in the 100 breast as he attempts to defend his crown, and is seeded fifth in the 200 breast. In addition to his 100 breast national title in 2016, Schwingenschlogl took third in the 200 breast at the Championships to record the top two finishes for a Mizzou men's swimmer at NCAAs. He is a nine-time All-American, with five first team and four honorable mention selections.
Chadwick claimed berths in three different events, the 50 and 100 free and 200 IM, with seeds of fourth in the 100 free, 11th in the 50 free and 19th in the 200 IM. The most decorated men's swimmer in program history, Chadwick is a 15-time All-American with six first team and nine honorable mention accolades. As a junior in 2016, he finished fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free at NCAAs, as well as anchoring Missouri's fourth-place 400 medley relay.
Earning his fourth-consecutive individual NCAA berth is Griffin, who claimed an invitation in the 200 back. He enters the meet seeded 14th in the event and is also eligible to swim the 100 back and the 200 free at the Championships. Last season as a junior, Griffin took 12th in the 200 back at NCAAs and swam on Mizzou's fourth-place 400 medley relay.
Sansoucie qualified for his second NCAA Championships as an individual with a bid in the 100 fly, where he is seeded fifth, and is eligible to swim both the 50 and 100 free as well. He finished 14th in the 100 fly at last year's NCAAs and owns two first team and six honorable mention All-America honors as part of Tiger relays.
Claiming his second berth in as many collegiate seasons, Schreuders earned a spot in the 200 free at the meet. Also eligible to swim the 50 and 100 free, Schreuders took home two All-America honorable mention selections on Missouri relays as a freshman in 2016.
