Goodwin, Reedy Add Second NCAA Qualifications During Day Two at Zone Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Redshirt senior Lauren Reedy (Rochester Hills, Michigan) and sophomore Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colorado) of the Mizzou men's and women's diving programs added NCAA Championships qualifications on their second springboards during day two action Tuesday of the 2017 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships in Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Goodwin, who punched his NCAA ticket Monday on 1-meter, added a berth on 3-meter after placing fifth on Tuesday. He tallied 372.1 points in prelims to earn a spot in the finals and earned 381.1 in finals to solidify his spot on the springboard.
Reedy added a qualification on 1-meter on day two with a sixth-place finish to add to Monday's 3-meter berth. She went 599.0 points combined in prelims and finals with 300.8 in the earlier session in 299.2 in finals.
Juniors Madeline McKernan (Montgomery, Texas) and Kendra Kieser (Plano, Texas) narrowly missed automatic qualifying spots on 1-meter with seventh and eighth-place finishes, respectively, when the top seven divers earned bids on the event.
McKernan tallied a two-round score of 593.9 points after a career-best score of 303.35 in prelims and 290.55 in finals. Kieser tallied 292.4 points in prelims and 299.5 in evening finals for a day total of 591.9. The pair can still earn 1-meter berths if they receive qualifying bids on platform tomorrow with a top 11 finish on the event.
"I'm really proud of the way all of the women dove today," Mizzou Head Diving Coach Jamie Sweeney said. "They all did a great job. Across the board I was very happy with them. They really competed well today and for Madeline and Kendra to step up in that top 12 was huge."
Also advancing to women's 1-meter finals was junior Alexa Beckwith (Denver, Colorado), who finished 13th with scores of 275.6 in prelims and 285.55 in finals. Additionally, junior Hunter Fritter (Houston, Texas) made the men's 3-meter finals and took 18th with 657.95 points on the day. The junior scored 332.05 points in finals after a prelims round of 325.9.
The Zone Championships conclude with day three action on Wednesday, March 8 with men's platform at 11 a.m. and women's platform at 4:05 p.m.
