Mizzou has now faced eight consecutive ranked opponents
COLUMBIA, MO. – In its eighth consecutive match against a ranked opponent, No. 48 Mizzou (10-9, 1-7 SEC) lost to No. 5 Vanderbilt, 6-1, in Nashville on Friday. Vanderbilt secured the doubles point and claimed victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to grab the match win.
In doubles play, Vanderbilt won at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, and at No. 3, 6-1. Mizzou's No. 1 pairing of senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) kept its winning streak intact as the duo's match was not completed.
Mizzou freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) continued her strong spring, knocking off Vanderbilt's Emma Kurtz. After dropping the first set 2-6, Schroeder responded to win the second set, 6-4. Schroeder prevailed in a third-set supertiebreak to her earn team-best 12th dual singles victory of the spring. The freshman has won 80 percent of her dual singles matches this season.
Vanderbilt earned five straight-set victories at the remaining singles positions. Mizzou's Santos battled against Vanderbilt's fifth-ranked Astra Sharma at No. 1 singles, winning nine games, but ultimately fell 5-7, 4-6.
Mizzou completes a road swing with a trip to No. 11 Kentucky on Sunday. The Tigers and Wildcats are slated to begin action at 11 a.m. CT in Lexington, Ky.
